And then she took a chisel to my heel

It is hot here, too hot. All I can contemplate is how I can suspend my body in such a way that nothing is touching me anywhere. Levitation is needed. Why does no one here have air conditioning?

I am PMSing so the hot plus the hormones is making my skin hella oily and gross. I’ve been washing my face every few hours and I this is a serious benefit to working at home. Still I am breaking out and my skin is terrifying me. Not only are my pores huge but I noticed a few wrinkles around my eyes.

I use a crappy product line called “acne free” or something that I get from the drug store and it is supposed to be equivalent to Proactive and it is just a 2% benzoil peroxide wash and cream. I also use massive amounts of some other 2% benzoil peroxide cream and now I’ve added a salicylic acid wash a few times a day too. I feel like my 16 year old self trying to convince myself that this too shall pass. But it won’t as I am about to be 34 and my acne is actually worse than it was when I was a teenager.

One thing to remember for oily skin is that DRY dos not equal NOT OILY. So moisturizer that isn’t shitty is essential. I use clinique dramatically different lotion on my face although I am thinking about switching to a shiseido lotion when this bottle runs out.

I got a pedicure and manicure today and boy howdy did I need that. In fact, the tough skin on my heels bested the stylist. Let this be a lesson to me – Lotion Thine Feet Daily.

Is it just me or does everyone have this problem: I can’t stand any kind of pressure on my finger or toe nails. Any kind of pressing on the nail bed or pushing the nail in any way makes me writhe around in uncomfortableness.

  1. It sounds like you’re using too much of the acne stuff – Burning your face and just making want to produce more and more oil. Your skin gets completely inflamed and aggravated.

Maybe try a more gentle cleanser?

I was having a similar problem, and then I went and got a facial and shelled out for more gentle products and now it’s *much* better.

No, it’s not just you. We use nail bed pressure to induce pain to see how comatose people are. Seriously. You can use your pen or a syringe barrel, and you press down. Most people who have been in a coma for a while will have little bruises on their finger nails and toenails. Preferred are the trapezius grab (think the “Spock touch”) and supraorbital nerve pressure (feel along the bottom edge of the top of your eye socket and you’ll feel a little notch. This is where the supraorbital nerve comes out. Now if you squeeze it, it would hurt). You can also use the nipple gripple, but that leaves bruises after a while, too, so not many people do.

  3. you could be right liz, the addition of the saylic acid might be too much.
i swear this is the only thing that works. I’ve done the mild thing, things like the clinique 3 step solution with no improvement.

  4. jen, ack! now I’m all feeling along my eye socket and grossing myself out!

ooh then you’d hate the recess game we used to play where we’d press down on a fingernail real hard for like 2 minutes….then slowly lift that fingernail in the opposite direction. feck yeah ouch! the person who showed me that terribleness told me, instructively, that “they used to torture people this way.” probably china. AGAIN.

also, as a worse-than-teen acne-ite, i suggest sticking to the salicylic acid — much better than benzoyl peroxide or homewrecker retin-A for adults…in my opinion. i also love witch hazel, although you wouldn’t look at my face and think, “must ask what products she uses!” so, there’s that.

I love love love my Origins moisturizers.
white tea skin guardian, night-a-mins, and “have a good day” (which my bf calls “day-a-mins”)

mostly I just use the white tea skin guardian. My skin is combination, I guess.
