I think the boot hunt is over
Thank you Fluevog, finally I can remember how to spell your name, also, for these cute boots:

Aren’t those cute?! But fuck all, I wish I could wear knee high boots or at least mid calf boots. I KNOW I am not the only woman in the history of boot wearing to have fat calves so come ON BOOT MAKERS! make some larger calved boots already.

Totally check out Zappos.com. I believe one of their search criteria is ‘wide calves’ on their search engine. (I have just the opposite problem — because i have such large feet, its assumed I have wide calves and then my legs flop around in the boots.)

Have you tried on anything knee-high from Fluevog? They’ll cost a zillion dollars but I think they have some wider-calf boots.
My own wide-calf boots are from Born, but they aren’t super interesting; Naturalizer makes even more boring wide-calf boots. I hear tell that proper horse-riding people boot companies have a big size range, but I have not investigated.
Most importantly: those boots are adorable!

You are not the only one. I looked for years before finding a pair that fit. Even the wide calf ones were too small. And while I realize that I have big calves, they aren’t freakishly big, so you would think that the wide calf would fit. But no. Some online stores provided the calf measurement, so I knew not to waste my time. I finally found mine at Lane Bryant’s website.

I feel your pain on the knee-high boot thing! I am constantly on the quest for a pair that fit, and I don’t consider myself plus-sized either (I’m a size 6 to 8). To hell with those chicken-legged girls, we need cool shoes made for normal people! Endless.com often puts the measurement on the leg opening and you can search by “extended calf”. My problem is I don’t have $200+ to spend on boots. SIGH!
Incidentally, I once bought lace-up knee-high boots from Fluevog online, and had to return them because they gaped open even when laced up. Poo.

I’m with ya Minni..my calves are not necessarily big looking but yes, I do have a bit of excess fat in that area, and therefore most high boots don’t fit me…wahh!

Boots!
I guess my calves are pretty slender compared to, say, my waist size. My luck has varied, though.
Usually I get boots in a size 10, so that I can wear thick socks, and also so the calf is bigger. (My big toes measure 8.5 & 9, but my 3rd & 4th toes are long compared to average, so my athletic shoes tend to be 10s also. my KangaRoos are 11!)
My bf bought me some Fluevog knee high motorcycle-style boots, and they are bigger than I’d ever have thought to buy–a men’s 9–and the calves just fit. I need to get one of them stretched, actually.
I’ve got a great pair of PVC lace-up knee highs from Hot Topic that fit well and don’t gap. (& only $40-)
On that note, their sister store, Torrid, for women sizes 12-26, has shoes and boots specifically made wider; you may want to try there.
Hopefully I can meet you soon or in the desert!
