A heart of sea lions
Traveling alone with a 2 year old… It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and it wasn’t as good as I thought it would be either.
Vim was off at a conference and so Mr. Pants and I headed down to Santa Cruz for a few days of loafing by the beach.
Somehow, I over packed. I forgot that I’m perfectly happy wearing the same shirt for 3 days. Although on day two I managed to squirt hand lotion all over my front and had to change my shirt. BOO! Jack didn’t want to leave the hotel room even though I could take him to the window to see the beach. Once I wrangled him out though he loved it. We went to see the sea lions and went to the board walk arcade. “CADE!” he would scream the rest of the time we were there. “GO CADE!?” “Um, sure kid, lets go shoot some buggery dinosaurs before the keeeelll us!”
Bad example parent, I am it.
I also let him watch KungFu Panda. Which is pretty much all fighting all the time. He likes it though… I think he might end up evil aligned. He likes to yell “BEAR COMING!” or “GIANT COMING!” or BAD GUY COMING!” It will work out nicely since my nephew Moomin is good aligned. When Moomin gets his D&D game going Jack will fit right in to round out the gang of adventurers…
I did not get to do my usual SC things. I did not go to yummy breakfast place, crepe place, fabric store, thrift and vintage shops or shoe store. And also, I didn’t think about how I would be trapped alone (I mean with a sleeping baby) in a hotel room for three hours during nap time and then from 8pm onwards. Barely able to make a sound… It’s a good thing I had my headphones and a super fast internet connection. Next time though I will need to be in a hotel where I have a private balcony. Terrace Court or the Carousel motel. Although the Ocean View Motel was fine and cheap and only about 5 steps from the beach.
