Darth Tater

Darth Tater

Jack and I played Hot Potato the other day, which was fun but would have been funner if he hadn’t been in the bath tub about to crack his head open at any moment and expose me for a bad mom (and hurt himself).

I also recently broken open my Darth Tater that I have had for many years. That was bought before Jack was even a twinkle in my eye.

I have two categories of toys that I have purchased since becoming an adult. Ones that I just want for me and ones that I saw and thought, “AW someday I’ll have a kid and I can give it this”. My Xena Warrior Princess action figures are one in the first category. But then I guess there is a third category of toys that Vim and bought thinking, “aw someday WE will have a kid and can give it this”. We bought our hypothetical kid a stuffed duck during a vacation to Glass Beach like 5 years ago. Actually the Darth Tater is a hard one to classify. I certainly just wanted it for myself but then once I had Jack and he was so cute and all I decided it would be wrong of me withhold this marvelous toy.

So Jack is talking up a storm, complete sentences and everything. So imagine my surprise when the woman at daycare told me he barely ever speaks while he is there. When I come pick him up he runs over with a toy and immediately starts talking and then he talks his way out the door into the car and all the way home.

It makes me sad that he isn’t talking while there! I’m assuming that eventually he will be more comfortable and will start talking. He apparently has a good time and plays and is cooperative and does everything all the other kids do. And he talks about The teacher and the other kids when he gets home so I think he does like it there.

It just makes me think about how shy I was as a kid.

Oh, also he learned to say “poopyface” at day care… um. GRRREAT! There are several kids there that have older siblings that come and hang out during drop off and pick up. I’m thinking it must be from one of them? Well, we all know that poop is hilarious. There is just no getting around it.

  1. Kids do learn the strangest things from other kids…

My great pass-on toy is a Fisher Price Camper Set with the whole fam-damly. Love Darth Tater though – that’s hilarious.

  2. the twinkle doesn’t speak at childcare either. the other day the carer was really pleased because the twinkle had said “more” when she wanted more lunch. we had to break it to her that she’s being saying “more” for more food since she was about 12 months. and apparently this was the first time she’s ever said anything they could understand!
