How to get your 2 year old to play quietly by himself

A surefire way to get Jack to quietly play by himself is for me to need to go somewhere. I’ve been planning a trip to the grocery store all damn day and now it is 4pm. He’s over there playing legos very peacefully. FAIL/WIN

Another good thing to do is act like you absolutely must change his diaper in his room immediately. Take your book when you go in there and he will disappear for at least 30 minutes and you can relax while reading in his room. It’s been super hot lately and his room is nice and cool. WIN

Now, shall I wrench him away from his toys or just go later or tomorrow? FAIL

Vim told Jack this weekend that the better he is at listening and following instructions the more dangerous stuff we can do. WIN

  1. Baby D is the same! He’ll bum around all day begging to go in the car. And as soon as we start getting ready to go, suddenly he is all absorbed in his books or puzzles or some other toy.

  2. I have that same reality in my house – but usually its only one kid playing peacefully and the other hollering to go to “da’ car”. It, however, never fails that as soon as they are both wrangled and ready to head out the door- they become mesmorized by the shoe rack or dirty laundry or something by the door.
