Making stuff makes me feel better – lunch bag pattern review

After my utterly crappy morning I needed to make something so that I wouldn’t feel like such a useless loser who gets her kid in a bike accident.

I pointed to an oil cloth lunch bag pattern by Skip to my Lou free over on Indie Crafts this morning and thought I would try it out today. I am bring food to a friend who just had her second baby and I thought her first little girl might like a little something special just for her. I made the lunch bag out of vinyl covered cotton and I have a mini play-do fun factory to put in it (thank you Target!) and I’ll put some extra snacks for her in there too.

The bag came out great, the pattern was easy peasy to make and her instructions easy to follow. This is a great satisfying project for a beginner sewist.

The only thing I did differently was to enforce all the seams and I used my walking foot because the vinyl fabric was having trouble going through my machine smoothly. Also, I used binder clips instead of mini clothes pins. :)

  1. Binder clips can be so very useful. Glad to hear you and the wee gentleman are (relatively – all possible outcomes considered )okay.

How do vinyl lunchbags measure up in the hyperventilation-control area?
