Recovering from hyperventilating

Man! What a crappy morning! Kiddo asked to go for a bike ride and so I packed us all up and we left. I made a DUMB choice to continue past Grand a block in order to get to the safe bike riding path and what do you know? Yes, I crashed with Jack on the back in front of a bunch of semi’s while trying to cross diagonally some embedded old railroad tracks.

I am an idiot.

Jack has one teeny tiny barely visible scratch and he cried for about 45 seconds. But I have a skinned and fucked up knee and skinned palms and I started crying and hyperventilating. It wasn’t pretty. The bike’s chain came off and I couldn’t get it back on.

If Jack’s arm had been out of the seat carrier he could have been seriously hurt. I know it was just an accident but it was so def. my fault. I’m not a very good bike rider and feel like crossing sunken railroad tracks diagonally is probably something people who know how to ride bikes don’t do, never mind with a kid in the back.

Somehow no one was around, no cars were coming and all the dudes with trucks were not there. Once I got us off the street a bunch of trucks rumbled by and watching cement trucks and semi’s kept Jack entertained while I freaked.

I called Vim and he told me to just walk the bike home. It was only like 4 blocks but it took forever and I could barely stop crying. A lady in a truck stopped and asked if we were okay and I just nodded and she said something else and I just nodded again.

Jack was so brave, way braver than me.

We got home and watched about 45 episodes of Shaun the Sheep. Jack loves the baby sheep with it’s pacifier.

  1. *hug*

I hope your knee is okay. Glad the little one is fine. It’s scary that it happened, but it could have been a lot worse. Glad you are all in one piece.

  2. Oh, no no no, no “bad mom” tagging! It was an accident! An accident where everything turned out fine. So glad.

  3. So glad y’all are ok! I would have been totally freaking out too. Definitely not “bad” parenting though. As you said, it was just an accident!
