Terrible or Tender?
I’m reading the Louisa Bates Ames book about two year olds right now. I like her books even though they are dated in a ‘mommy does all the housework and daddy wears a suit and goes to work’ sort of way. I can deal and read around it.
Last week at playgroup there was SO MUCH pushing and grabbing and crying from all the kids that I though all of the parents eyes were gong to fall out due to eye rolling. At one point Jack, after having rejected the swing, saw a girl heading for it and when i said it was her turn he SCREAMED and clenched his little hands and face and turned red. Eventually, in an unrelated incident, Jack got hit in the eye with a bucket of rocks…
Here’s what, comfortingly, this books says about his age:
This tends to be an aggressive age, and play with children and objects can be quite violent. Both verbal and physical aggression are conspicuous. Some seems quite unprovoked. There may be much hitting, slapping, pushing, screaming.
Joy!
