Thank you for not being perky

Somehow we only have 3 more full days here. I don’t know what happened. We’ve been lazy. I’ve read 4 books, wrangled a whiny 3 year old too many times, drank about 3 tons of mai tai’s, and turned a lovely nut brown color.

My bathing suits are holding up so well. OMG, I love them. I ended up making another one with some leopard nylon lycra. I cannibalized two old bathing suits as well to make this one: an old red bikini top supplied the red trim and an old plum colored Calvin Klein princess cut suit supplied an attached under suit. The under suit worked out really well. I just attached it the same time I attached the top of the dress to the bottom. Easy as pie.

Older ladies on the beach eyeball me and smile. They so want to ask me where I got my non old lady-esque swim dresses!

Two things I was worried about: Would they come apart because I used plain thread on parts? And, would they be too heavy and annoying when wet? No, is the answer to both. They are perfect and I wish I had made like 5 more of them. I ended up leaving the cherry one behind. It was just too big and the over the shoulder straps didn’t work as well as I would have liked.

I’m going to make some more and see if anyone on Etsy wants them.

Enough about my bathing suits…

Yesterday I saw a moray eel and practically had a panic attack. It was very neat though! I also saw a scorpion leaf fish and many adorable puffer fish. I have not reached the holy grail of having seen a trumpet fish or a turtle.

Traveling with a three year old is extremely trying at times. Yesterday I stormed out of the hotel room in a huff. I wanted to pinch him or something, he was being so impossible. He’ll refuse to do anything you want him to do, then he’ll say what he will do but 5 seconds later he will refuse and say the opposite. Also, he has had two tantrums. Both times like screaming so intensely that it seemed like he might barf and kicking his feet super hard. I really really dislike it. I continue my bad example parenting by sighing loudly and rolling my eyes.

On mys sisters advice I did make a calendar with him and he has been x-ing off days until we go home and see my cat and my blue car, which are apparently the two things he most misses. I swear I have had to pretend to be Nigel, my neighbors cat, about 50 times while Jack pretends to by my cat. That’s us, meowing our way down the beach in Maui…

Another problem I did not anticipate AT ALL is worrying about interacting with other kids and parents on the beach. Jack whines about finding a new friend on the beach every time we walk about the door. As an introvert I do not enjoy meeting new random people on the beach while I am on vacation and trying to read my book and bask. I do like playing with other peoples kids, kids are fun. It’s just having to make bored conversation with parents that I do not enjoy. I’ve been coaching Jack how to go up to another kid and what to say.
“hi my name is Jack, do you want to play? We are building a sandcastle”. hahaha. He says it sometimes usually just as a kid is running by on their way somewhere else.

One of our first days here he wanted to go talk to a cute 5 yr old girl. So Vim walked over there with him to say hi and Jack closed his eyes and pretended to e asleep. Instant narcolepsy. It was hilarious, he just went totally limp. He does that at daycare occasionally when he is in trouble. Handy!

All I want to do is eat delicious seared ahi tuna ALL DAY LONG.
