Monkey, my love, have you a mind?
I’ve been lax in my mommy blogging. There are things Jack is doing right now that he might not be doing for much longer or I might forget and I’ll miss them.
For instance, he says ‘elephanit’ instead of elephant.
When he wants a particular kind of something he says, “I want that kindakind”.
“You be dis one mommy, No! don’t let go”, when he wants me to play a particular animal or car or whatever and I must not put it down for any reason.
“I want you to talk about it”- this when he wants me to tell him a story. We have a serial story going on about him and his friend Amelia the Snail. I always start out the story with her and jack yells “now meeeee! talk about meeeee!”. He and Amelia go on various adventures, rescue people, explore, and meet new friends such as Squeak the Bat. Often they stop to have a snack consisting of crackers and ice cream. A rocket ship to Mars is often involved.
When’s he’s upset I say “when you stop crying we can talk about it” or something like that. and then he’ll say “i want to talk about it later (WAHBOOHOOO). and then later he says, “I want to talk about it. I was sad” etc.
This morning in the car he told me that he was sad because I was gone this morning at my yoga class and he cried but then I came back and he was happy.
He loves to be the bad guy. He likes to roar.
Last night in his bath he decided that I would be Jack and he would be his cousin Moomin. So his whole bath he called me Jack and showed me how to use his toys and talked about houseboats.
Monday at Sadiedei’s cafe he cuddled a horrible naked plastic babydoll the whole time. He took it down the slide with him, put it in the craddle, sang it rock-a-bye-baby, put it in the toy shopping cart and pushed it around while filling up the cart.
This weekend we took Jack to the Exploratorium and it was pretty fun. I told jack in the car that he could touch everything in this museum and he took that to heart. He beetled about, wedging himself in front of people and touch every single thing in the whole place. Once again though, we should have left earlier because he got too hungry and cranky. I wonder at what age does some place like the Exploratorium become more of a learning experience? I suppose one would have to really follow up on exhibits. One way might be to take good pictures of ones that a kid is interested in and use those later as a way to discuss concepts. WHAT DO I KNOW? My kid is only almost three (THREE!) so all he wants to do it lick everything and attack things with swords.

Your kid is so cool. I hope that if I have children they develop the communication skills you seem to be teaching Jack. I was more yelly-smashy at his age than “I want to talk about it later.”

I so want to take Jonah to the Exploratorium now! Brilliant.
Are you writing down the snail stories? Sounds lovely. I wish you were my mom.
