In which I consider deleting my Google+ account
I don’t like Google+ and I’m feeling grumpy about it right now.
I don’t like having a million people I don’t know add me. I see how this can be great for people, i really do but it sucks for me. I don’t like strangers and I don’t really WANT to meet new people via that sort of social network, it’s just not useful for me in any way. I feel like I am on the verge of rejecting the internet completely and am feeling oddly violated by strangers looking at my google profile.
Then, there’s this that just happened:

so… WTF? I love Elisa! But do I care that she “shared” (whatever that means) a link to the wikipedia article about echinacae in 2005? DO I CARE? might I care in some other situation? maybe? Like maybe I could reach out to her and have in depth discussion about echinacae that would lead to future world peace! Or fucking NOT. How about I get to look some shit up on the internet without having to know which of my other friends have also looked it up or ever spoken about it on the internet going back to 1994. How about Google let me handle my own personal life?
I just might start a link farm blog that links to every heinous thing someone i know might look up on the internet and then my name will ALWAYS pop up when you google ANAL POLYPS.
Bing search engine here i come….

I totally agree. I don’t like Google+ pretty much at all. There are too many people who have added me to their circles that I don’t even know. There should be some way to block that. At least on FB you get to approve that crap. Google’s answer is “Don’t know this person? Don’t worry. Don’t add them to your circles.” WTF? Other people I don’t approve shouldn’t be able to add me to anything.

When G+ first came out, everyone was talking about how it was SO MUCH BETTER than FB– but I wasn’t convinced. I’m still not convinced– and am really not a fan. I like the control I have with FB– and the fact that it’s easy to use.

I hate G+. Every time I’ve tried to interact there I get all panicky and then I get all angry because it’s not linear in the same way FB is. Plus no one is talking about anything I’m interested in over there. They’re all doing it on FB. So I have abandoned G+. I also hate twitter. My universe has become a kinder and happier place since I just decided that I’m not obligated to take part in any social media that makes me anxious, no matter how much other people love it. I love FB because I live in a small town with very few people I can relate to in it – on fb I can chat with people I understand and see what they’re up to. I think of fb as a virtual garden fence that you can lean over to talk with your neighbors as they pass by. I also really love Pinterest.
