I swear to god the first time I looked at the label for these it was leather upper but no, synthetic, which seems more likely for a pair of 30.00 shoes. Despite that I trundled forward and used leather dye on them… with odd results of anvy blue and a coppery color.
So I made a trip in a raging hurricane with Jack to pick up some leather PAINT. It worked much better and now I have some bright blue shoes.

The thing is that the reason I didn’t wear these shoes very much was that they are too big and guess what?! They are still a bit too big.

The leather dye and paint were both pretty easy to work with.

I have a pair of white Miz Mooz boots (leather) that I could use the blue dye on and it would stay more true to the dye color. But those boots are too big for me too. Anything pre pregnancy, before I realized that I am actually a 6.5 not a seven, is too big for me but I can’t seem to let them all go. I think I’ll put a toe insert in the blue pair to see how that improves the fit.

It’s suddenly all about layering. In fact one of the projects I would LIKE to be doing soonish is developing into an absurd amount of layering.

Starting with a swatch of fabric. freezer paper stenciling it, then adding stitching wth embrodery thread arounf the boarder of the stncil so that it look like a patch sewn on., scan it and manipulate in photoshop. Hhahahaha.

Why is my brain working this way? why not just MAKE A PATCH? Or do the whole damn thing in PS? Anyone? Anyone?

So she was how I learned about the impressionists, not through her (now, seemingly) more well known male contemporaries like degas and such. Inever quite forgave herfor not loving the next wave of young visonaries tho.

This is one f my favorite of her drawings – it was from after she saw an exhibit of japanese prints.

Man, It’s been forever since i have gotten any painting done. Lately I’ve been dreaming in this weird collage sort of way. AND then I went to my drug dealers house, ie. Paper Source, and I bought a bunch of super cute paper. I swear, can i just live in that store?

So I made a couple of cute little painting/collages:

I started another one that is a cormorant plunging in to the sea. er.. so far it kinda looks like crap. so I have to keep working on it and may start over.

Some times I have the urge to create but am not feeling very creative. At a time like that there are a number of things one can do. I often sit down in front of my art books and flip though them, there’s bound to be something that catches my eye and makes me think.

Or you could work on a technical skill by copying. You can open up some paints and slosh color onto your paper randomly. and doodling/journaling can really help as well.

One of the reasons i started this seperate crafty blog was so that I could organize and search my ideas and projects more efficiently. Often I have a spurt of brain activity that thinks up a million and one projects but then have no time, or forget what they were. i swear i have about 40 million moleskines filled up with sketches and parts of ideas and lists of projects. One tag i created here is "project ideas’. so when I’m feeling at a loss I can click on that tag and take stock of my forgotten ideas and take my pick of things to work on.

This fun little thing caught my eye in the latest BUST magazine (courtesy of my sampler! thank you very much!). Porn paint by numbers! woot! And you can check out the cutie who makes them and buy kits here: http://scarletlibrarian.com/, plus she has an interesting blog there too.

i like this whole idea and it would be very easy to make ones own paint by numbers kit using your desired photo and photoshop with various filters. I’m too lazy to make a tutorial right now but maybe i will soon.

Right now i have to go print out the scarlett librarians pdf and get to work.

I thought I should catalog my workspace for posterity although this is an older pic. I’ve cleaned it up a bit since. This is the first time I have had a dedicated crafting space and it’s freaking awesome. Before I would get all set up to sew on the kitchen table and then spend the next several months eating on the living room floor. Or I would get set up to paint on the living room floor and spend several months tiptoeing around it all. Now the art room is all crapped up all the time and it’s fine and the past few days the baby has hung out with me on his chair while I finished up my baby blankets! He’s so cute!!

and here is my sewing machine:

It’s a crappy Kenmore from Sears. I bought it in about 2001 while unemployed for 8 months. I thought, "hey! nows a great time to spend money on shit!" and then badger and I spent several months sewing crappy eye pillows and bags as christmas gifts. of course I immediately put stickers all over it.if you can’t decorate stuff you own then what’s the point of owning it? i feel the same way about my body, thus the tattoos and blue hair and stuff.

I do plan on cleaning and organizing the art room more. and i have some ideas for a few paintings as well. N is coming over in a few weeks and maybe I will work on some paintings/collage stuff then. The Ikea frames are already purchased! I also need to frame up my old leaf paintings. I still really like thenmand would like to get them all up on the walls.
